eautifullytold,intheregularflowofit.Butyoucan’tavoidthebiographyaltogether.Ithoughtyoumightfindwaystoletthetruth
ofsomeofhisclaimslikehisarmycareercomeout,bitbybit,inthecourseofactualnarrative.Thegeneralbrilliantqualityofthebookmakesmeashamedtomakeeve
nthesecriticisms.Theamountofmeaningyougetintoasentence,thedimensionsandintensityoftheimpressionyoumakeaparagrap
hcarry,aremostextraordinary.Itseems,inreading,amuchshorterbookthanitis,butitcarriesthemindthroughaseriesofexperiencesthatonewouldt
