tantsupplyofbikeswhichtheysendouteverysixmonths.InAugust2000,theysimplyranoutofmoney.Itwasaterriblesituation.Fortunately,inOctober2001the
ywonanEnterpriseAwardwhichhelpedthemenormously.DanPearmanisthefounderofPedalPower.Hegottheideaofexportin
gbicyclestodevelopingcountrieswhilehewasinEcuador.DanPearmanwenttherein1993andhejoinedavoluntaryorganization.WhereDanPea
rmanlivedinEcuadorwasaruralarea.Hisneighborhadtheonlybicycleinthevillage,whereaseveryoneelsewalkedeveryw
here.Hisneighbor’sbusinesswasverysuccessful.ForyearsDanPearmancouldn’tunderstandwhy.Thenherealizedhavingabik
emeanthisneighborcouldreachanywherehelikedwithoutmuchtrouble.Otherlocalcarpenterscouldonlyacceptjobsnearby,so
nomatterhowskilledtheywere,theycouldneverdoasmanyjobsashisneighbor.WhenhereturnedtotheUKin1998,hestartedplanningPedalPower.
